Pre sale question: 3x 2k monitors with M1 Mac mini

Hi, I’d like to know what product is best to enable me to run 3 1440p monitors from my m1 Mac mini.

Am I best running 1 from the device itself and 2 from a display port?

Thank you.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for reaching out to Plugable support! I’d be happy to help with that information.

Based on the information that you gave I would normally recommend the UD-3900PDZ or UD-ULTC4K docking stations.

Here is a video the we recently made that talks more about connecting tree displays to a Mac M1.

Due to the popularity of these docks amongst Mac M1 users, we have had a hard time keeping those docks in stock. So here are some alternatives for getting a setup that should provide similar connectivity for three displays.

For the base docking station we recommend the following docks that should connect one display and charge the laptop.

To those docks you will need to add two USB 3.0 DisplayLink adaptor like the following:

There are a few important details to keep in mind:

  1. Our UD-3900PDZ and UD-ULTC4K docks and other USB 3.0 adaptors relies on a USB graphics technology known as DisplayLink.
  2. DisplayLink graphics is great for general office or productivity use, but we do not recommend DisplayLink for any graphics intensive tasks such as gaming.
  3. This will not support closed-display mode (aka clamshell mode)
  4. Does not support HDCP (copy-protected) content playback from Blu-ray/Netflix/Prime/iTunes/Hulu/etc.
  5. You can find more information on MacOS DisplayLink compatibility here: https://kb.plugable.com/questions/799275

If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know.
