I have just purchased the new HP Spectre x360. From other posts I’ve looked at, you’ve been waiting to acquire one to do compatibility testing for your docking stations. Do you have any updates? A docking station under the tree would go well with the new unit.
Hi Steve,
Thanks for posting. Happy to report that so far the new HP x360 series (with Intel “Kaby Lake”/7th generation processors) have been working well with both of our USB-C docks per several customer reports and our own internal testing.
We’ve noted this in our compatibility tables for both units on their respective product pages:
plugable.com/products/ud-ultcdl
plugable.com/products/ud-ca1
If you do decide to give one a try, we’d very much appreciate if you let us know how things work, as well as the HP model number so we can continue to update our compatibility matrices in these exciting/complex early days of USB-C and Thunderbolt 3. (Beyond the “x360” model, they have a more detailed code on the system such as: 13-w023dx)
Thanks!
Gary
Ended up purchasing the UD-CA1 for the HP Spectre x360 13-w023dx. All works great so far. Laptop is charging, hdmi attached monitor, charging/synching our Samsung Note 5. Great job, guys!
Excellent, glad to hear it Steve! Appreciate the follow-up.
@Support: I am planning to purchase Kaby Lake HP Spectre 13-w010nb x360 Azerty
You think it will charge/work with the udca1 ?
Thanks.
I purchased the Plugable USB-C Model UD-CA1 for my HP Spectre x360 Convertible 13-w0XX. It works intermittently. I keep getting a disconnect and then an HP message “HP Recommends using an original power adaptor from HP”. Then the laptop display dims then brightens then dims.
Then got a Windows 10 Blue screen of death STOP Code: Worker Invalid.
Just received the same Plugable Model. I am receiving similar symptoms on the same HP x360 system system. Gonna have to return it if I can’t get a fix soon.
I have the brand new 15.6 inch HP Spectre x360 (Kaby Lake) and just received my Plugable UD-CA1. I used the included dock and cable to connect my Dell monitor (not 4k) via HDMI and it is not working. When I connect the cable from the dock to either the Thunderbolt 3 or USB C plugs, the screens on both machines go crazy and blink on and off, basically resetting my monitor in a nonstop loop. I have tried everything, tweaking display settings, etc. Nothing seems to help. Interestingly, the 15.6 HP Spectre has an HDMI input and I can get perfect display functionality if I directly connect the HDMI cable from monitor to laptop. Still, I prefer a dock that will connect with a single cable to charge and connect the monitor and all peripherals. Frustrating, but I have emailed support and posted a separate post here in the forums. If I can’t get it to work, i guess I will need to try the overpriced HP dock or live with two cables, etc. Anyone else having this issue?
Yesterday I sent in a request to Plugable and was told to plug in the HP recharger at the same time. Did that for a few hours with no issues. Today I am running on just the pluggable cable with no HP charger. So far so good. When I had problems yesterday the battery was at a lower charge of maybe 40-50%. The HP popup about using an HP charger was coming up constantly. After plugging in both chargers and getting the battery to 100% it seems to have gone away. Might run without the Plugable at all for a while today to see if the battery level is triggering the HP annoying popup.
Same issue and proposed solution here. David from Plugable support asked me to use the HP charger while connected to the dock and it seemed to work fine (no screen flicker, but I didn’t connect any peripherals to the dock or check other functions). Frankly, this is not a great solution as the goal is one cable to connect to a dock that also charges via Thunderbolt. Based on my research, this all stems from the available docks not having enough power to charge and handle the display. I know that my 15.6 inch Spectre x360 (2017 Kaby Lake) has a 20% larger battery than the 13.3 and ships with a 90 volt charger so I siuspect the solution is sas simple as finding a dock with similar power. Unfortunately, no Plugable dock or any other I can find will presently work with my machine. I guess I will return the dock and live with connecting the charger and HDMI to my monitor for now (the 15.6 size has an HDMI). The dock seems great for other machines, but I can’t justify the cost if I still need to use the HP charger (and buy another to leave at my home office to avoid lugging it around every night).
Some of this is redundant, but…
I have a new Spectre 13" with the 1 USB and 2 USB-C thunderbolt jacks. I’m looking for a docking station that would connect the following.
I have:
- a Dell monitor w/ HDMI,
- a Keyboard (I guess I could switch this to wireless) w/ USB,
- a backup drive w/ USB
- speakers
- a fitbit USB
* I ideally would also like it to be a power station.
I want to have this all connected, but have spent hours online reading reviews and searching products and I can’t find what I think I need.
Has anyone figured this out yet?
Thanks
@chomalungma82, thanks for posting. Unfortunately, we are still encountering issues with the Spectre x360 systems using our UD-CA1 docking station with the workaround of connecting the HP power adapter to help stabilize the connection.
Thank you,
David W.

I have an HP Spectre 13-W023dx, hooked up to a Plugable ud-ultcdl. I’ve got the latest Windows update (creator’s edition), HP drivers and Bios and am using the displaylink 8.2 drivers.
Everything seems to be working fine for me.
I have the following hooked up:
-Two Auria 2560x1440 monitors via HDMA (one at 60hz and one at 50hz).
-Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse combo through USB unifying receiver
-Logitech 2.1 Speakers
-Gigabit Ethernet to my router
The unit is charging my Specter while being plugged in.
Just wish I could turn on the laptop without opening the lid.
Before I purchase a ud-ultcdl, any thoughts as to compatibility with a HP Spectre x360 G3 Series 13-ac042tu which is the Kaby Lake one, with two Thunderbolt 3 ports?
Cheers
Hi,
just got my Spectre 13-ac031ng and wondering, if the http://plugable.com/products/ud-ultcdl does work with all features on this notebook.
Anyone thoughts or even plugable staff having information on it?
Thanks in advance and regards from Germany!
André
HP Spectre x360 (13-ac002na BIOS F.22 Rev A - which I think is the UK/EU equivalent of 13-ac075nr) is stable for me with UD-CA1 using the bundled USB C cable. Ethernet, HDMI, USB 3 ports and laptop power delivery are stable.
I did notice the repeated disconnect issue when I tried an alternate TB3 cable.
I did rename “c:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP System Event\USBCMSG.exe” to stop the nagging message about using a non-HP charger.
So does the hp Spectre x360 13-w0XX with firmware F.32 work with the UD-CA1? Specifically does the USB-C charging part work?
Would like to know as well.
Unfortunately, we still cannot recommend our UD-CA1 for use with the HP Spectre x360 series of laptop, regardless of BIOS version. We are exploring a resolution and may have an updated revision of our UD-CA1, but we do not have additional details to share at this time.
Thank you,
David W.

Using Plugable C Docking with power ud-ca1 with my HP Spectre x360 Convertible 13-w0XX. The intermittent connection till the laptop is charged above 90% is persistent. “HP Recommends …” message a standard. I am not sure about others, but I feel a lag in my wireless Logitech wave 2.4 mouse and keyboard response too when connected through the dock. Connecting an additional charger does solve the disconnection issue, but the mouse/keyboard issue remains. NO issue with the high speed internet and the audio connections.
