pondering purchasing a large format monitor. running two normal monitors. will a large format monitor interrupt the format for the other monitors? this is important!!

In general, you can extend the desktop to up to 6 monitors in Windows and up to 4 in OS X 10.4 or later.
Note that Microsoft limits multiple display support in Windows 7 “Starter” Edition and Windows Vista “Home Basic” Edition to mirroring screens in which case the resolutions are not independent.
