I want to buy one of these but don’t know what I need??? 2.0 or 3.0 -powered or non----on and off switchable??

Can you share some details about your computer (windows/mac/linux?) and whether it has USB 2 or USB 3? If you’re unsure please provide the model number for your PC (Mid 2012 MacBook Air, Dell Inspiron 1720, etc) and I can figure that out.
I assume you’re shopping for a USB hub rather than one of our other products based on the powered/non powered question? Non-powered hubs are ok for splitting one port into two for adding a couple of low power devices like mouse and keyboard, however they won’t work if you’re using higher demand devices like USB graphics adapters or external hard drives.
