What is it about the Mac that the uga-3000 cannot be supported?

The UGA-3000 product page (http://plugable.com/products/uga-3000) states:

“Mac is not supported due to significant limitations in the operating system.”

I’m curious what the OS limitation is as Mac allows root access.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Shamsul,

Thanks for posting!

With the transition from OS X 10.8.5 to 10.9/10.10, there were several API regressions which caused DisplayLink-based devices to have various issues, some mild-to-annoying, and some more severe.

Both Plugable and DisplayLink have filed bugs with Apple regarding the issues, and there’s an overview of some of the outstanding issues at the links below:

http://plugable.com/2013/10/22/multip…
http://www.displaylink.com/support/ti…

What’s especially challenging about the above issues is the inconsistency in user experience. What works for one user on their system may not work reliably for another user with a virtually identical setup. DisplayLink has been making progress on the various issues with new beta driver releases, but most of the core issues are still present.

We’re hopeful that the next beta driver release will result in some significant improvements, and will publish a blog post with an update on Mac/DisplayLink behavior once the new drivers are available.

Thanks!
Gary
