I have connected the Docking Station to my girlfriend’s laptop (USB 2.0 port) and DisplayLink popped up and configured the display. Everything worked perfectly.
We’ve been working with Jose via our email ticketing system to get to the bottom of this issue.
For the benefit of others who may view this thread while researching the issue, at this point it appears that there are several reports of issues relating to USB 3.0 OTG functionality on the Thinkpad 8 (not specific to Plugable products, but with USB 3.0 devices in general).
As a workaround, using a USB 2.0 “A to B” cable between the OTG adapter and the device seems to help with device-detection issues, though of course the device will be limited to operating at USB 2.0 speeds in this configuration.
Any updates to this topic? I am interested in purchasing for my ThinkPad 8, but want to be assured of full functionality so I can connect to a second (or dual) monitors while maintaining touchpad access in landscape mode.
Based on the various forum threads out there, people seem to be reporting much improvement using the following Lenovo USB 3.0 OTG “Y” cable: http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/itemdeta…
We haven’t had much other customer feedback regarding this, but the later pages of the following thread contain lots of positive comments about the cable (with some even referencing using it with a Plugable UD-3900 dock): https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad…
One other suggestion - it seems like a BIOS/firmware update to the TP8 is highly recommended for USB improvements as well.
