We recommending using OBS if you want to save and capture video from the NIX capture card.

That being said, there’s a record button that is hidden in VLC unless you enable the option. That should help you to save video using VLC if you’ve already got video from the capture card showing in VLC

the best tip is change video input frame rate to 29.
