Using USB-2 host and cable on USB-3 docking station

Can I use a laptop with USB-2 ports with the UD-39000 USB-3 docking station ?

Hi Rick,

Thank you for posting!

Yes, you can connect the Plugable USB 3.0 UD-3900 docking station to a Windows host system that has only USB 2.0 ports available.

However, due to the fact that a USB 2.0 connection is much slower than a USB 3.0 connection there are a few items of which you need to be aware when using the dock in such a manner:

  1. The dock’s front USB 3.0 ports will function at the slower USB 2.0 speeds
  2. You may experience reduced performance of the dock’s Ethernet network port
  3. You may experience reduced performance of the displays connected to the dock

Thank you,

Bob
