Using device as alternative to hardwire connect to wireless smart tv when ethernet IS NOT port is provided on tv.

I own a TCL Roku Smart TV that can only connect wirelessly to the Internet. The TV doesn’t have an Ethernet port for a hardwired connection but has a USB 3 port. Roku’s help forums explain that hardwire connectivity can be attained by using a USB/Ethernet adapter; however, when I connect the adapter to the USB port and plug in the LAN cable, the yellow light doesn’t illuminate and my assumption is that USB port isn’t getting any power. Can you offer suggestions as to what may be happening?

I have the model USB3-E1000 gigabit Ethernet adapter
