Use of usb serial adapter with home automation and raspberry pi

I recently obtained the usb serial adapter for use with a X10 CM11a interface. I need to set baud at 4800 for this unit. With the PC, no problem, but with RPi, I’m lost. Any guidance would be appreciated.

RPi 3b+ running HomeGenie

Hi Dave,

Thanks for reaching out to Plugable support.

Unfortunately, we do not have much information in the way of changing parameters like the communication speed using Linux and that typically comes down to the application interface transferring the USB side to the drivers for the serial device you are trying to use. This can be more difficult with the Raspberry Pi. Because it would depend on the base distribution of Linux that you are running on the Pi.

You may be able to find some information at the driver website that does have a Linux version of the drivers.

Please visit the Prolific PL2303 driver download page for all other operating system options:

I am not familiar with HomeGenie, but I do use Home Assistant and if the two are anything alike, there may be a module that you need to install in order to give you access to the serial controls with the USB device.

I hope this information is helpful.
