USBC-11IN1E Hub & MacBook Pro M4 - Two External Displays

If I use DisplayLink software, will the USBC-11IN1E HUB support two (2) Dell P2419H displays in extended mode?? (I’d rather not get a dock.)

Hi there!

Since your USBC-11IN1E relies on Thunderbolt or DisplayPort Alt Mode technology, it will not be compatible with DisplayLink, so installing the DisplayLink Manager app would not help here. In addition, since you are getting mirrored displays, I am under the impression that you have the base version of the MacBook Pro M4 (and not the Pro or Max version). If so, then the USBC-11IN1E would only be able to support one external monitor (due to the M4 limitation on your MacBook) and not two, thus resulting in mirrored displays.

That said, if you require dual external display support, I would recommend a DisplayLink docking station or adapter solution, as DisplayLink can circumvent the one external monitor limitation of your MacBook.

If you did not want a docking station solution and only monitor support, one recommendation would be the USBC-6950M seen here: https://plugable.com/products/usbc-6950M

The USBC-6950M supports up to 4K 60Hz and would require the DisplayLink Manager App in order to work: https://plugable.com/pages/displaylink

Hope this information helps!

I do have a MacBook Pro M4. The PRO model, per Apple, does support two external displays.

Could I do that with the USBC-11IN1E under any circumstance?

Hi Dennis,

If you have the MacBook Pro M4 “Pro” model, then the USBC-11IN1E would be a great choice to support two external monitors in “extend” mode.

To reiterate, you will not need to install the DisplayLink software in order to use the dock as the dock supports Thunderbolt and DisplayPort so it would be plug-and-play.

Best,

Michael S.
