USB4-HUB3A Question- Is it a true hub?

Hi, Just got this interesting hub. But is it a hub in the trues sense? I have a question…

Can I plug my computer into ANY of the hub ports instead of just the “host” port? If it’s a true hub, I should be able to do so. I do not need to charge the CPU just share the TB3 with several devices (specifically one set of HD RAID array and a 4K display, a couple of nearby peripherals). Shall I expect trouble when doing so?

Thanks,

Henry

Hi Henry,

Thank you for posting!

I can see you have also reached out to Plugable directly via our support@plugable.com email address with the same question.

I have just sent my reply to your direct email, and I wanted to repeat the salient information here for the benefit of any others following this thread.

In regard to the Plugable USB4-HUB3A hub → https://plugable.com/products/usb4-hub3a

One end of the the included 0.8 meter long 40Gbps Thunderbolt 4 cable must be connected to a Thunderbolt 4 port built-in to your computer.

The opposite end of the included Thunderbolt 4 cable must be connected to the single Thunderbolt 4 host port located on the front of the USB4-HUB3A hub.

If the hub is not connected in the manner described above, then the USB4-HUB3A will not function.

We do our best to call this out in the printed quick start guide included in the box with the product, as well as within the ‘Getting Started’ section of the USB4-HUB3A’s product page → https://plugable.com/products/usb4-hub3a#nav-get-started (under the ‘Connecting things together’ section).

Thank you,

Bob
