USB3-SATA-U3 shows up with no drive inserted, but nothing when drive is inserted.

When I connect the USB3-SATA-U3 to my PC I can see the device in the devices menu and in disk management, with a removable drive letter H assigned to it, see the image.

But, when I turn the USB3-SATA-U3 off, insert an SSD drive, even a drive that has been initialized, formatted, and assigned a drive letter, and turn it on, nothing shows up in Disk Management. Not even the previously mentioned drive letter, see this image. In this test I removed the G SSD and installed it in the USB3-SATA-U3 drive, and this is what I see in disk management.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I’m using Windows 10 that is up to date with the most recent released updates. This happens with both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 cables attached to the dock and the computer.

Sorry to hear about this issue. What model SSD are you using?

It’s the Samsung 850 EVO 500GB / MZ-75E500B/AM, although I tried it with a fully configured Samsung 840 EVO 250GB I’ve been using for quite some time and that didn’t work either.

Hi Matthew,

Thanks for the info. We’ve found that the Samsung EVO SSDs don’t work properly with the ASMedia 1051E chipset.

Our newer dock with the ASMedia 1053E/1153E chipset works fine with the EVOs. Unfortunately ASMedia is not actively working on new firmware revisions for the 1051 anymore.

How long ago did you purchase your dock?

Thanks,
Josh

2 years ago.

Ah shoot. :frowning:

Technically that’s out of warranty and well past the return/exchange through Amazon. I hate to say it, but you may need to get a different docking station.

As a courtesy we may be able to assist in getting you our newer dock to try and make sure it works with your 840 and 850 EVOs. I’ll be contacting you directly via email so keep an eye out!
