USB2-E100 stopped working after six months of use

I bought a USB2-E100 six months ago for my son to use with his laptop. He’s been using it with no problems since then until last week, when it just completely stopped working.

I’ve tried plugging it into my laptop and the Ethernet switch in my office, but with no different results: the computer doesn’t recognize the device is plugged in and no lights illuminate on the device. There’s no physical damage to the device; in fact, it looks like I could have just bought it.

Surely there must be some sort of warranty on these products, right?
