USB to Serial kext not loading?

Installed PL2303_1.4.0 in 10.8.2 (Mountain Lion). Prolific file shows up in the extensions folder. After reboot, however, performing a kextstat | grep prolific in Terminal comes back with nothing but another Terminal prompt, as if the kext is not loading.

Also, no serial options show up under network types. It appears the kext is not loading. Anyone confirm?

Another thing that leads me to believe it’s not loading is when you try to unload it, you get:

Failed to unload com.prolific.driver.PL2303 - (libkern/kext) not found.

Hi Jeff-

I have the same behavior when the adapter is not plugged in on 10.8.2.

When the device is plugged in (even when not connected to a serial device) kextstat | grep prolific returns:

121 0 0xffffff7f81e71000 0x8000 0x8000 com.prolific.driver.PL2303 (2.0.0)

This is normal behavior when the adapter is unplugged. If you’re seeing this when the adapter is connected, could you please email the following to support@plugable.com attention Jeff:

  1. Amazon Order ID
  2. Device serial number (example d12-00020820)
  3. Shipping address

Thanks for posting your findings!

Best wishes-

Jeff Everett
