Sorry things aren’t working for you yet. We’re eager to get any install problems here with the ASIX 88178 drivers figured out - so would love to work with you on this.
First thing is to note Axel’s earlier comment - make sure to remove any other 3rd party USB ethernet drivers you might have installed earlier, like that from sustworks.com. They can and do conflict.
After that, let’s double-check where things are with the ASIX AX88178 drivers. A few quick questions to start:
Did you get your AX88178 driver via a download from ASIX (here http://www.asix.com.tw/download.php?s…)? (should have been their new 3.4.0 version that is packaged as a .dmg file)
The driver is for 32-bit kernel mode only. Can you double-check that’s what you’re running (info from Apple on how: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4287)
Hi Joe - Thanks so much for letting us know, and very glad to have you up and running!
We’ve been in contact with ASIX about 64-bit kernel support, and it appears to be in progress. To set expectations, major driver updates like this can take quite a few months. But we’re hopeful, and certainly for us this would eliminate a common cause for confusion.
Dear Bernie
Thanks for answering this thread. I have just downloaded the ASIX 88178 drivers and the adapter is working on a Macbook Air with OS 10.6.5.
Sincerely
Simon Rodan
Bernie,
No patience needed. A 30 second Google search. Two minutes to download and install the drivers. I wish everything were that easy to sort.
