usb device not recognized - HP Spectre

installing Triple display USB-C with HP Spectre computer. Error = usb device connect has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize the device.
USB ports work fine with other devices. Is this a known compatibility issue or something we can work around?

Our internal testing combined with customer reports have shown our Triple Display Dock to be incompatible with some HP systems including the Spectre. We have a compatibility chart on our product page here -> http://plugable.com/products/ud-ultcdl if you are curious.

One of the main issues with some HP USB Type-C systems is that they will only charge with HP branded chargers. Benson Leung ( a Google engineer that does a lot of posts about USB Type-C) has some additional information (and links) if you would like more information:
