usb-c to regular usb on Macbook - can I connect to USB-C docking station UD-CA1

I don’t have usb-c on my Macbook Pro retina 15# 2013 model. I have thunderbolt, hdmi and usb regular. How do I connect the USB-C docking Station UD-CA1 model.

Hi Susan,

Thanks for posting your question. The UD-CA1 and other USB-C docking stations are completely reliant upon new technologies introduced with USB 3.1 (such as Power Delivery and Alternate Mode video). So unfortunately, these technologies aren’t backward compatible with USB 3.0/USB-A systems.

We do mention it in our compatibility info, stating “The UD-CA1 relies upon new functionality introduced with USB 3.1 and as such is not compatible with USB 3.0/2.0 legacy systems.”, but we’re always open to suggestions on how to best present these type of technical details.

If you’ve already purchased the dock, we’ll be glad to assist with a return of the unit for a full refund. If needed, feel free to contact us at support@plugable.com and we’ll be happy to help!

Best wishes,
Gary
