USB adaptor for keyboard not recognized on start up

Hello. I have a MacBook Air with a USB-C port. I’m using the above USB Hub to enable ethernet for my MacBook. I also have a wireless keyboard that is connected via a small USB adaptor. When I start up my MacBook, the ethernet portion works fine, but I have to unplug and replug the keyboard adaptor for it to be recognized. I’m running the latest level of Big Sur. Any ideas?
