USB 3.0 hub - AC power or not?

I just purchased the USB 3.0 4-port hub. The package says it is usable with either USB power or with the AC adapter. When do I need to use the adapter vs. just USB?

Hi Lance,

Thanks for posting your question here, I’ll be glad to help. We recommend always using the AC adapter with your hub. It will however work for low power devices with out the AC adapter. Devices like a mouse or keyboard work fine with out the AC adapter however if all 4 ports are in use or in the case of higher power demand devices you’ll want to be sure to use the external power supply.
