USB 3.0 Display Adapter not working with Windows 8

When drivers are installed for USB 3.0 display adapter, the external monitor I am attempting to use does not work, my main display goes black, doesn’t respond and I need to force a reboot.

I need to unplug the adapter before rebooting or the screen will go black again shortly after rebooting otherwise.

If it helps, I am using a HP Touchsmart Envy 20 all in one pc.
