USB 2.0 Transfer Cable unable to connect to new laptop in S mode

I am trying to transfer my files from my old laptop running Windows 7 to a new Dell running in S mode. I get an alert that I have to get out of S mode to do it but if I get out of S mode, apparently I can never go back. What are the pros and cons. I also cannot install Express VPN for the same reason.

Hi Rebecca,

Thanks for reaching out to us about this! I’d be glad to help you with your Transfer Cable. Windows S Mode provides some increased security and other enhancements to Windows 10. Can’t be too secure, right?

But, this also limits the programs that can be installed to programs that has released themselves, or, allowed to be on their Windows Store. That would explain why you’re also unable to install express VPN. So yes, you would need to turn off S Mode to install and use the Easy Computer Sync software.

Here’s an official article directly from Microsoft that you may want to check out for some more info: S Mode FAQ mode is really useful for some, but I would definitely take some time to do decide if it’s for you. I hope that helps! Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Thank you,

Thank you for your help. I have plenty of my own safety software including Norton 360 with Lifelock, in addition to Express VPN that I can install.

Hi Rebecca,
