USB 2.0 to 10/100 Ethernet Compatibility with Nexus 10

#1

Does the Plugable USB 2.0 to 10/100 Fast Ethernet LAN Wired Network Adapter work with the Nexus 10. I see a lot of post saying that it works with the Nexus 7. I figure the s/w and drivers are the same for the both the 10 and the 7, but wanted to make sure.

Let me know

Hi Jeremy-

Thanks for asking!

We think it will work as well, but don’t have one to test.

The 2013 Nexus 7, the Nexus 5, and presumably anything running 4.4.2, does have a known issue that keeps USB networking devices from pulling an IP address. On rooted devices you just have to do netcfg eth0 up and netcfg eth0 dhcp to activate and pull an IP address-- but it won’t work, on non rooted devices. There’s already a patch for this available on Google Code, and merged into CyanogenMod-- so with any luck it’ll be resolved on 4.4.3’s release.

If you try it, please let us know what you find. If it doesn’t work returns are easy during the first 30 days after purchase via Amazon, and we’re happy to work with you directly for the balance of the 1 year warranty.

Best wishes-

Thanks Jeff! Both units arrive tomorrow and we’ll give it a go and post what we find.

Also, is there a way to set the IP to a static IP address. We can always fall back on the assigning the IP based on the MAC address, but it would be better if we could set a static IP.

Thanks,

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy-

This varies by device-- my Nexus 5 and our 2012 N7 don’t give any UI, but my older Asus TF300T does.

If you have root and busybox, you can use the ip command, but i’m not sure of a way to do this through just the built-in netcfg. Here’s a good thread on the available command line options, or let me know any other questions. I’m a pretty hardcore android fan so I’m happy to help!

Hi Jeremy

Does it work? if yes, does the adapter charge also the Nexus 10?

Do I need to root ? can you send me a link for instructions?

What is the internet speed change when you compare it to your WIFI?

Thx

Hi Noel, could you open a new question for the Nexus 4? It helps keep answers for different phone models distinct. Closing this one. Thanks so much!
