UD-ULTC4K issues with dual and 3 monitors setups - Surface 3, 4 and Dell 5501, 5510, 5520, 5530, 5540 Latitudes

We run Surface Laptop 3’s, 4’s, Surface Studio laptops, Dell 5501, 5510,5520,5530, and I think we’re even seeing 5540’s now. All of these models intermittently seem to fail to display all monitors after being locked or go idle. The issue occurs on 2 and 3 monitor setups, which these units had no issue with on their OEM Dell/Surface docks.

Why do these work, and then after the user goes idle they are go back to not working and you have to unplug, and reset the Alt1HDMI and the USB-C connector and that (usually) gets it back up.

EDIT: We may have a lead on this, but won’t know for sure without more testing. But it looks like this behavior is attributed to the “auto-detect source” feature.

Hi,

Thank you for posting! I am sorry your docking station is not working as expected and I would be happy to help.

Thank you as well for the detail you provided and the testing you have performed that is much appreciated. Based on your description of the behavior, our next step is to get some additional information.

Please keep the dock connected to your system on one of those laptops (even though not working) and send the output of our diagnostic utility PlugDebug → http://plugable.com/support/plugdebug to us directly via support@plugable.com with ‘For Ticket 405888’ in the subject line. This will allow us match things up and examine some log files from your system to help determine the next steps.

Please also include your Amazon Order ID number for the docking station purchase in your direct email. Please do not post the Order ID or the PlugDebug file in our public forum.

Thank you for giving us the chance to help!

Sounds good Richard. I’m going to see today if the removal of the “auto-detect” on these View Sonic monitors fixes the issue or not. If it does I’ll report back to this post, otherwise I’ll get you that information. It may be slow gathering because currently the secondary office we are using these docks at is not fully open, so staffing is thin equating to a small sample size to gather from.

Hi,

Thanks for the update.
