Looks like the Pro8 does not work with Surface 3 if connected through the Micro USB charging port of the Surface 3. Connecting through the regular USB 3.0 port works, but of course doesn’t charge the Surface 3. Connecting to the Micro USB charging port of the Surface 3 charges the device, but no other functionality are working.
I thought that the Surface 3 charging port also functions as a data port. Not sure if this is a design issue with the Surface or if I am doing something wrong.
Hello,
Unfortunately the Pro8 is not compatible with the Surface 3 for charging. This is mentioned on our compatibility chart on our website:
http://plugable.com/products/ud-pro8#…
We recommend using our UD-3900 docking station for Microsoft Surface tablets.
If you need assistance returning the Pro8 please let me know.
Best wishes.
Thanks. I was one of the Kickstart adopters so I think I’m beyond the return period. Sold my Venue 8 Pro and gotten the Surface 3. It really is too bad. But if there’s way to return and receive some credit towards the UD-3900 that’d be awesome.
Hi Tony,
Thanks for backing us last year!
Technically we can still make the dock work, but it won’t be able to charge your Surface tablet. And you’ll be limited to USB 2.0 performance.
I’ll contact you directly via email and am going to close this thread.
