UD-6950PDZ unable to recognize 3rd monitor

My UD-6950PDZ does not recognize my 3rd monitor. The first two monitors are connecte via Displayport Cable. The 3rd monito, regardless if I plug the monitor using an HDMI or Displayport cable is not showing up. The spec sheet for my laptop a Samsung Galaxy Book 360 Pro NQ950QDB has 1 Thunderbolt 4 and 2 USB Type C port, but I can’t determine if either one supports DisplayPort Alternate Mode.
I already created a plugedbug log in case a tech person needs to see it.

As per msinfo…
OS: Windows 11 Home
System Model: 950QDB
System SKU: SKAI-ASAS-ASAS-TGL3-PAKG

Hi David,

Thanks for contacting us! I am sorry this is not working as expected.

We can take a look at the log file to help determine what may be causing this behavior. Please attach the zip file to a reply email to ‘support@plugable.com’ with the subject line ‘Ticket #415939 - Attention Pat’

This will allow us to examine some log files from your system to help determine the next steps.

Additionally, please let me know which port on the docking station is not outputting video data. Each pair of DisplayPort/HDMI ports are labeled as “Display #” just below the ports

This docking station relies on two graphics technologies to support up to three external displays.

The “Display 2” and “Display 3” outputs are controlled by DisplayLink USB Graphics Technology, this is a combination of software on the computer and hardware on the docking station which extends the capability of the computer to support more displays than the computer was designed to support. This requires installing the DisplayLink drivers for Windows ( https://plugable.com/drivers/displaylink ) or the DisplayLink Manager App for macOS and configuring macOS to support the external displays ( for macOS 13: https://kb.plugable.com/1595423, for macOS 11, and 12: https://kb.plugable.com/1185378 ).

The “Display 1” output relies on the computer’s internal graphics controller, it utilizes USB Type-C DisplayPort Alternate Mode (“Alt-Mode” for short). This is an optional USB Type-C port feature which is not enabled on all computers. This relies on the computer’s built-in graphics drivers and requires the docking station to be connected directly to a USB Type-C port with Alt-Mode capability using the original USB Type-C data cable provided with the docking station. USB Type-C cables from other products, or purchased separately online may be charging cables that do not support Alt-Mode video data.

Thank you,

Pat

Hi Pat.
After reading your reply I realized the issue wasn’t the Plugable hub but rather the USB-C splitter unit that allows me to switch from the Desktop to Laptop. When you mentioned the cables, I just plugged the unit directly into the laptop and all three monitors appear.
I originally had an older Plugable hub and used the Plugable USB 2.0 sharing switch to switch between my laptop and desktop. Since getting the US-6950PDZ, I ended up using a USB-C Splitter since Plugable didn’t have a USB-C version of the sharing switch and since then I only had 2 of the 3 monitors working. Seems that I just need to plug the UD-6950PDZ to either the Desktop or the PC directly and not use the USB-C switch. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Hi,

Thanks for letting me know all three displays are now working!

Unfortunately we do not currently recommend connecting our USB Type-C Triple Display Docking Stations through a USB Type-C sharing switch. Most sharing switches do not support either USB Type-C DisplayPort Alternate Mode ( required for the “Display 1” output ) or USB Power Delivery ( required to power and charge the computer ). Some switches do support these modes, however using the switch with the included cables may exceed the USB Type-C cable length specifications causing reduced performance, stability or reliability issues.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions, or if there is anything else I can do to help, and have a great day!

Pat
