UD-6950 USB ports rarely work

Hello.

I purchased a Plugable UD-6950 USB 3.0 Dual DisplayPort 4K docking station via Amazon in April 2020. For a while, I had no issues with it. However, over the past year or so, its USB ports have become increasingly unreliable to the point that it is more convenient to not use them.

I have ‘fully reset’ the docking station, as recommended in other posts on the topic, on hundreds of occasions, and reinstalled the DisplayLink software on more than a few. Sometimes this is successful, but, more often than not, it has no effect, and I have to abandon the idea.

For reference, I most often use the docking station with a 2019 MacBook Pro running macOS 11.6, but I experience this issue equally frequently when using an Acer Swift 3 running Windows 11 (and 10 before that).

Is there anything I can do, other than continue to reset and reinstall? Is updating my OSs likely to help? Are there any factors likely to exacerbate the issue that I could try to minimise, e.g., switching computer less frequently?

Many thanks,
Tim
