UD-3900 docking station with usb 3 switch - One monitor and 2 computers

I’m trying to figure out if I can use the plugable usb 3.0 switch with my setup - I have a mac mini 2012 and dell laptop Inspirion 5000 series and am using the UD3900 docking station. I would like to use one monitor, keyboard, and mouse and be able to switch between computers. Can I do this by using the USB 3.0 switch with the docking station ? And can I also have both computers using one internet line from the docking station?

Hi Roger,

Thanks for posting!

To be transparent, we do not support macOS with our DisplayLink-based docking stations due to historical driver incompatibilities. You can find more information about this on the following blog post: https://plugable.com/2019/10/10/plugable-displaylink-products-and-macos-catalina-10-15/

Because of this, we would not recommend our Plugable USB 3.0 Sharing Switch added into this configuration.

Sorry to bear the disappointing news.

Mitchell,

I understand, I can also us it with my other computer that is a pc - so the

question is still a question I have if you don’t mind answering it.

Thank you,

Roger Harvey

Hi Roger,

With two Windows PCs, then we expect this setup to work! You can see the following video which outlines this kind of setup: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYy0tdMworg

Our USB 3.0 docks have an Ethernet port, so you should be able to toggle this Ethernet connection (along with displays, USB peripherals, etc.) assuming that the dock’s DisplayLink driver is installed on both systems.

I hope this helps!

Mitchell
