Triple display changes cursor order randomly between displays

I have a USB-C TRIPLE MONITOR DOCKING STATION, 100W LAPTOP CHARGING, that will change the order of displays when moving the cursor from display to display. For example, sometimes I can move the cursor left to right and it will cross all three monitors in order. If my laptop goes to sleep, when I turn it on the next time, the cursor, when moving left to right again will skip the middle monitor and appear on the far right. I have to move the mouse to the far right and then it shows up on the middle display again. This change happens every time I wake up my laptop. I’m running a Mac Air M3, and purchased the docking station on Amazon. Help!

Hi there,

Welcome to the community.

The docking station is likely losing connection entirely when the system goes to sleep, or some internal components are. The only time I expect to see this behaviour is during the initial setup, if a power reset is performed, or if macOS is having difficulties distinguishing the displays or their EDID data. It would also be helpful to know which of the three displays is getting rearranged. Our docking stations utilize DisplayLink and DisplayPort Alt Mode to drive three displays, so it would be useful to know which port the display that is being rearranged is connected to, allowing us to better focus our efforts.

Currently, I recommend switching to an HDMI connection if you’re using DisplayPort on that display, or the other way around if possible. If that isn’t feasible, using a different display would be the next best option.

Next, I recommend you reset the internal chipsets of the docking station by performing a power reset.

To do this, please follow these steps:

  1. Disconnect all USB peripherals and displays connected to the dock

  2. Disconnect the docking station from the host machine, then disconnect the power adapter from the power

  3. Leave unplugged for 1 minute for power to dissipate (Reboot the laptop at this time)

  4. Connect the docking station initially to power only

  5. Connect docking station to host machine, then connect USB peripherals and displays, then test for functionality

If you continue to run into issues, please email our direct support email address ( support@plugable.com) with “For ticket # 462459” in the subject line. In the email, please include the following information:

  • Please provide the Amazon Order ID number for your Plugable product purchase.
For your reference, an Amazon Order ID number has seventeen digits (separated by two dashes), and typically, that information can be found here → https://amazon.com/orders
  • Can you please keep the docking station connected to your computer (even if it is not working as expected) and send us the output of our diagnostic utility PlugDebug? → https://plugable.com/pages/plugdebug

This will allow me to examine log files from your computer and help determine the next steps.

Please do not post the above information here in our public forum (it contains personally identifiable information)

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to let me know.

Thank you,
