"The system cannot find the file specified." when recording a video with my USB Microscope 250x in 64-bit W10

Hello.

I just installed https://s3.amazonaws.com/plugable/bin/Digital_Viewer_3.1.07.exe into my sixteen/16 days old 64-bit Windows 10 Professional PC for my USB Microscope 250x. I can see and take photographs just fine, but recording a video fails with “The system cannot find the file specified.” (https://screenshot.cz/JG/JGU3W/cantrecordvideo.gif for my screen shot/capture in action).

What’s wrong? Thank you for reading and hopefully answering soon.

Hi Ant,

This is interesting. I’ve seen this message a few times, but am not clear on what causes it. What are your current settings. Could you provide a screenshot of that? What happens if you try to set a different folder or a different drive if you have one?

That’s what I would play around with. The program should be outputting files not looking for them, so I am not sure why this message is popping up. I hope this helps. Please let me know what happens, and we can go from there.

Thank you,

Kevin

I figured out what caused this error! In settings, I changed Movie Setup’s maximum file size from 20 to 4096 MB (4 GB). Recording gives me that error! 4095 worked. 4097 shows “Video size setting is incorrect, out of range” even though it says (16 - 4097 MB). This needs to be fixed. Also, pressing “Default” button to reset my
settings will fix the issue since it changes back to the default 20 MB
(too small for me). For now, I use 4095 MB.

Also, is there a way to have the software remember to pick the USB
camera instead of my TV tuner? It always forget after I exit and
relaunch the program (never disconnected the camera’s USB cable).

Please fix! The program is really buggy. :frowning:

Hi Ant,

Thanks for the reply. Looks like this was the issue you originally brought to our attention. Thanks for bring this to our attention as well. It looks like it may display different error messages. The message about not finding a file is strange, as we’re trying to create files.

4096 is the max number that can be placed in this field at this time. Unfortunately there isn’t a way to set the microscope or another camera as the default. I’m sorry for the trouble, but glad to see it’s working for you now. Please let me know if anything comes up!

Thank you,

Were you (and anyone else) able to reproduce it on your end? It’s very easy to do. And 4096 gives me the error. The software needs to better QAed (I can help in this area as a tester). I also noticed a Folder typo in “Do Not Create New Nolder” in “Save Settings”.

Also, what’s a good free third party Windows software to use with this microscope?

Hi Ant,

No, unfortunately not. We’ve had good success with the default Window Camera, and webcamoid: https://webcamoid.github.io/ is very promising. I hope that helps. Please keep us posted if you have any other feedback!

Thanks.

I just tried Webcamoid
(https://github.com/webcamoid/webcamoid/releases/download/8.8.0/webcamoid-portable-8.8.0-win64.zip),
but it kept crashing right away. I see the microscope’s video feed and
light for a second. :frowning:

Hi Ant,

Thanks for the reply. We’ve had good experiences so far with that software and our microscope so I am sorry to see it hasn’t been the best experience for you. You may want to reach out to the Webcamoid team to see if there’s any tips or suggestions they have to make the software run smoother for you.

Thank you,
