TBT4-UD5 2 HDMI monitors plugged in only 1 monitor recognized

Hi there,

I’m trying to use a Plugable TBT4-UD5 dock to connect two monitors via HDMI to my Lenovo Legion Pro 7 16AFR10H - Type 83RU, but only one monitor is detected when both are plugged into the dock.

Each HDMI port works individually — if I connect just one monitor to the dock, it’s recognized. I can also get both monitors to work if I plug one directly into the laptop and the other into the dock, but that defeats the purpose of using the docking station.

I’ve already installed the latest Thunderbolt drivers from Lenovo and confirmed Windows is fully up to date.

Is this a compatibility limitation with my laptop’s Thunderbolt/USB-C port, or is there a firmware/driver update I should try to enable dual displays through the dock?

Hello Mallory,

Thank you for reaching out on the forum!

I am sorry to hear that you are running into issues with your TBT4-UD5, but I would be happy to help try and diagnose the issues here.

First, can you confirm that you are trying to connect to your laptop using the included Thunderbolt 4 cable that came with your dock? We’ve seen issues arise when a third party cable is used.

Next, can you let me know the exact model of Lenovo Legion you are using? Preferably if you have a link to the product page, that would be helpful in determining whether we expect this dock to support 2 displays on this setup.

Thank you,

Evan

HI Evan,

Yes, I am using the Thunderbolt 4 cable that came with the dock.

I am using a:

Legion Pro 7 16AFR10H

Product number: 83RUCTO1WW

Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX3D 16-Core Processor

Hello Mallory,

Thank you for the response.

Taking a look at the specs for your laptop, it appears to not support Thunderbolt on the USB-C ports. This is somewhat expected due to the fact that your host uses an AMD processor, and Thunderbolt is currently an Intel and Apple exclusive technology.

Our TBT4-UD5 does require a Thunderbolt 4 or Thunderbolt 5 connection in order to support dual displays, and non-Thunderbolt USB-C ports will only support a single display, so this unfortunately is a compatibility issue.

I am sorry for the inconvenience! Please let me know if you have any follow up questions here.

Thank you,

Evan
