TBT3-UD1-83 Thunderbolt 3 audio stopped working

I have an audio cable connected from a house receiver to the audio on the port and it has been working fine since I purchased the port November 2017 on Amazon. Today it just stopped working for no apparent reason. I disconnected the cable and replugged it in and still did not work. I took the same cable and connected it to the audio on my laptop and it worked fine so it seems to be the port. The port is too new for this failure.

Thanks for posting! I am sorry the audio output of your docking station stopped working as expected and I would be happy to help.

Based on your description of the behavior and assuming you are running Windows 10, one quick thing to double-check is that the Default Audio Playback device is set correctly to the audio output of the dock. If this is not set correctly, audio output via the dock will not work.

While the audio cable is connected to the dock’s audio output port, please follow these steps:

  1. Right-click on the speaker icon in the Task Tray in lower right-hand corner of your desktop (by the clock).

  2. From the menu that appears, select the ‘Playback devices’ option.

  3. From the ‘Sound’ window that opens, right-click on the entry that says ‘Speakers USB audio CODEC’ and select ‘Set as default device’.

  4. Once selected as the default, the entry should look similar to my example screenshot below with a green check mark. The ‘USB audio CODEC’ device represents the audio output port of the dock.

  5. Test the audio output of the dock again.

Thank you Bob! Audio is working again. Strange thing is I have never done anything with this setup in Windows 10 so I believe it has been pointing to the Speakers as the default device all along. The USB codec info would be a good thing to include in the port documentation. Now I know how to switch from the receiver to the computer sound too. :slight_smile:
