Static in my speakers when plugging in UD-CAM

I have a 2018 MacBook Pro 15". I have an apogee interface and I just bought the pluggable doc UD-CAM. I have clean grounded power and I run everything through a furman power conditioner. When I plug in the UD-CAM to my computer, there is a horrible static sound in my speakers. When I unplug the UD-CAM it goes away. I’ve tried other outlets in my studio, I’ve made sure the cable wasn’t touching other cables. I haven’t tried a different USB-C cable yet. My laptop charger is 87 watts and this Ud-CAM is 85 watts. I don’t know if that’s the issue? This has all the ports I need and the price was good-- I’m hoping I can make it work! The static is unacceptable.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Plugable support! Sorry to hear about this issue. I’d be more than happy to assist you.

I expect that this issue may be caused by a ground loop. We’ve encountered situations like this in the past, and usually lifting the ground on the dock power adapter can resolve it. If that doesn’t help, the charging interface could be generating some interference.

I presume when using the stock ungrounded Apple charger you’re not encountering this noise through your audio interface?

Please don’t hesitate to let us know of other questions.

Thanks again for contacting Plugable support and best wishes!

Thanks, Josh! Problem solved with a $.99 ground lift adapter!
So far so good with the other features of the dock. Perfect amount of ports for my needs.
Thanks!
