Seagate Hard Drive not being recognized. Purple Light.

Hi,

I recently purchased this device in attempts of recovering some files from a computer that went down.

If I plug my device into my computer without the hard drive attached it is recognized and the light goes from purple to blue. I see it as Removable Disk (G:).

The issue is when I attempt to put in the Seagate Barracuda 7200 hard drive and press the power button, the device (or hard drive) makes a clicking sound repeatedly before sounding as if it simply powers down. At this point, the device becomes undetectable simply because hard drive is connected. Furthermore, the light at the top turns and remains purple in color.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you!,
Nick

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Plugable support! I’d be more than happy to assist you with this issue.

Most likely the hard drive has failed. The key clue here is the clicking repeatedly before spinning down. Often referred to as the “click of death”. A drive in this condition will not be recoverable in our docking station. Usually professional data recovery services will be needed.

Please don’t hesitate to let us know of other questions.

Thanks again for contacting Plugable support and best wishes!
