Testing revealed that a Software-Defined Radio (SDR) device does not function when connected through a Plugable USB dock. The issue appears related to the dock not properly supporting the SDR device over USB. Standard USB-A dongles are required for the SDR, and the Plugable dock does not provide reliable connectivity.
I am reporting this based on these findings. A new USB-C to USB-A solution is arriving tomorrow, which has not yet been tested, but ChatGPT research has found that the dock is the culprit.
Thank you for contacting Plugable support! Sorry to hear about this issue, and thank you for letting us know. I’d be more than happy to assist you.
Regarding this issue, we’d most likely need to get more information about this specific SDR USB device that’s being used, and with what software. It is possible that being connected through the USB hub chipset(s) in the dock is in some way preventing this device from working.
While most USB devices will function through USB hubs/docks, there are some devices that may require low-level USB communications that may not work correctly or at all when connected through a hub, although this is typically rare and usually only seen with specialized hardware.
Please don’t hesitate to let us know of other questions.
Thanks again for contacting Plugable support and best wishes!
