Restarting, repeating keyboard AND slow mouse AND webpages not loading properly

Just hooked this up last night and am having multiple problems:

  1. Keyboard repeats periodically. One character will look like i am holding it down for 15 or 20 times. This is a wired keyboard plugged into the station. Happened at least a dozen times whiile typing this.

  2. Mouse lags terribly. This is wireless. Seems to work fine plugged directly into laptop, not in station.

  3. Every so often, my station will go off and on causing everything else to go off and on. I have updated software and run the repair steps I saw in a prior post which seems to limit the frequentcy, but not enough. I do have a energy efficient surge protector and it does look like it could be a surge coming through, but I never had this before and it is every few minutes or more now.

  4. Most webpages don’t load properly the first time. The images do not appear so I have to reload them. Then they mostly are OK, but still doesn’t always work.

Hello Marc,

Thank you for contacting Plugable support! Sorry to hear about this issue. I’d be more than happy to assist you.

We have two possible things that can help with your mouse and keyboard. Since one is wired and the other wireless, I suspect this is probably not an interference issue, but I’ll still post that just in case:

Problem: My wired (or wireless) mouse and/or keyboard are experiencing lag/latency (jumpy/jerky mouse pointer movement, missing key-presses, duplicate key-presses, etc) when connected to the dock.

Solution: Dell released a patch that changes a Windows Registry entry related to the Intel Management Engine that is not Dell exclusive which has resolved these issues for several of our customers using a range of different host systems from different manufacturers. We recommend to try installing this patch if you have some of the aforementioned issues:
https://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER03471411M/13/Dell_Dock_USB_TYPE-C_PATCH_2K0JJ_A00_SETUP_ZPE.exe

Problem: Why does my wireless mouse or keyboard appear sluggish or not work properly when used with the dock?

Solution: Most USB receivers for wireless mice and keyboards operate in the 2.4Ghz band. When connecting the receiver to any USB 3.0 port there is potential for interference that can affect the devices performance.

The most effective method is to add a short USB 2.0 extension cable between the dock and the receiver to mitigate the effect, and many wireless keyboards and mice come with such a cable for this reason.

Intel has a technical whitepaper on the behavior for those interested here:
http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/io/universal-serial-bus/usb3-frequency-interference-paper.htmland

we have written about the behavior in more detail here (please see the RF interference section): https://plugable.com/2017/03/17/troubleshooting-wi-fi-performance-and-wireless-keyboard-mouse-issues-on-usb-docking-stations/

We also got your direct email with diagnostics and I am looking at that and will be in touch ASAP for the other issues you’re experiencing.

Please don’t hesitate to let us know of other questions.

Thanks again for contacting Plugable support and best wishes!

Thank you. Just wanted to also mention that the latest problem is that my external speakers are crackling. They are plugged into the station as well. This is new since yesterday. No idea why that is but it is VERY annoying. In the meantime I’ll work on the patch you mentioned for the keyboard issue. I’m about ready to return the whole thing but will give a little time to see if you can come up with something on the rebooting problem which ironically has not happened this evening even though was constant yesterday (as was the keyboard repeating)!!!
