I have a surge protector from another company that I bought in 2008. It only protects against 1080 joules. How much better is the 12 port surge protector with 2 usb ports that offers 4,320 joules of protection? If you leave it plugged in during a lighting storm?
The average direct lightning strike carries hundreds of millions of joules of energy. If your home were to be hit with lighting no consumer grade surge protector will keep your equipment safe.
With that being said, the general rule is that the more joules of protection the better.
