Purpose of self adhesive pads included with nvme enclosure

Are these foe thermal control on nvme drive? Where should they be applied?

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for asking, the thermal pads are optional and can be applied to the top memory chips of the NVMe drive before closing the enclosure to provide additional thermal conductivity to the aluminum enclosure. Please be careful when closing the enclosure with the pads installed as they may catch on the aluminum enclosure and slid off the chips.

At this time I am only recommending installing the thermal pads if the drive speed drops off when the drive heats up, in our testing this only occurs with older NVMe media, current generation media should run fine without the additional thermal pads.

Thank you,

Pat
