Plugable USB 2.0 OTG Micro-B to 10/100 Ethernet Adapter compatibility

Hi,
I am intending to buy a Samsung Galaxy Tab A (9.7, Wi-Fi) (SM-T550) (Lollipop) and I want to be able to connect it to an Ethernet cable. And I would like to know whether the Plugable USB 2.0 OTG Micro-B to 10/100 Ethernet Adapter will be compatible with it.
Thanks,
Thassos

Hi Thassos,

Thank you for contacting us and asking about the USB2-OTGE100.
The best way to figure it out is contact to Samsung.

As far as we have heard from one of our customers, this Ethernet adapter had worked with his Samsung Galaxy Tab A SM-T550 with 6.0.1. But we are not sure if it works with Lolipop.

Please understand that the compatibility of any external USB devices with Android system is completely Android device dependent. An USB external devise such as this USB2-OTGE100 adapter requires the proper device driver is running on the host system. In this adapter’s case, it’s the driver for ASIX AX88772 chip set.

Since Android doesn’t allow users to install any device driver, it’s the Android device manufacturer’s decision if the device has built-in the device driver(s) for external USB peripherals or not. Some manufacturers do, but others don’t. If they do not, there isn’t any way for users to install the driver, then this adapter would not work.
If something wrong happened with the device driver, we don’t have any way to fix it neither.

For example this adapter works fine with Google Nexus 5 and 7 currently, but it had stopped working twice so far when Google upgraded the Android from Kitkat to Lollipop, and again when upgraded from Lollipop to Marshmallow. We guess Google broke the device driver of AX88772 unintentionally. Fortunately the issues were fixed by Google in the next updates such as 5.0.1 and 6.0.1, but until then the adapter could not work at all. This types of issue would be happening with any kind of Android devices at any time.

With the above reasons, Plugable cannot say or guarantee the compatibility of this adapter works with any particular Android device.
Please note that If it’s Windows, Mac and Linux systems, we can say it’s compatible - since those OS allows users to install or re-install the device driver when needed.

Thank you for your understanding, and hope this helps!
