plugable ud3900 stopped being recognised on HP Spectre x360

I have an HP Spectre x360 [15t-BL100]. The Plugable USB 3.0 docking station [UD 3900] was being recognised correctly and the I was able to use the ethernet port of the docking station until recently. This is with Windows 10.

But all of a sudden, only wireless network shows up in the list of network adapters. I tried another UD3900 I have and the same issue. Both units are recognised correctly on other computers [not HP Spectre]. In device manager, the USB device shows up with an error related to hardware IDs.

I went through the loop of updating the drivers Windows update etc with no effect. I called HP support and representative claims that docking stations are NOT recommended with HP Spectre and and that using one will affect the laptop. This sounds seriously suspect.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for getting in touch!

That messaging from HP support is unfortunate to hear. I personally use a HP Spectre here in the office as my primary work machine and have used the UD-3900 without issue.

I’d like to grab logs from your system to see what could be going on. Could you contact me at support@plugable.com so I can send you some instructions?
