I recently purchased a Plugable TBT4-UDS dock and I am trying to run two external monitors from my laptop. With both monitors plugged in via HDMI, Windows will only recognize one monitor at a time. Could be either one - but not both at once.
I tried connecting one of the monitors to the dock by USB-C but that doesn’t work at all, even if it’s the only monitor connected.
If I plug the second monitor directly into the laptop’s HDMI port, then Windows will detect both monitors and it all works fine. But that defeats the purpose of having a $200 dock that should be able to handle both monitors.
I have an MSI Creator 16 AI Studio A1VIG 74US laptop with Windows 11 Pro and a Thunderbolt 4 port.
I cannot find drivers that look like they would address this issue.
I am sorry to hear that you are running into issues with your TBT4-UD5, but I would be happy to help diagnose the issues here.
First, can you confirm that you are trying to connect to your laptop using the included Thunderbolt 4 cable that came with your dock? We’ve seen issues arise when a third party cable is used.
Next, some steps we’ll want to take are to perform a power-cycle of the unit to reset its internal hub chipset. We’ve seen that this can often restore the dock back to a working state when one or more of its functions are not quite working. To do this, please follow these steps:
Disconnect all USB peripherals and displays connected to the dock
Disconnect the docking station from host machine, then disconnect the power adapter from power
Leave unplugged for 1 minute for power to dissipate
Connect docking station initially into power only
Connect docking station to host machine, then connect USB peripherals and displays, then test for functionality
