I have a Windows 11 Laptop and I’m simply trying to run 2 external displays both via the HDMI ports on the TBT4-UD5 to HDMI inputs on the Displays.
Only one Display works, if I disconnect HDMI 1, the HDMI 2 Display then works, reconnect HDMI 1, still only HDMI 2 works, disconnect HDMI 2 and HDMI 1 works again. I am not using DiplayLink on Windows, and I have a HDMI port on the Thinkpad that I can use to get two working displays but I cannot get them both to work on my TBT4-UD5. Mine is a Thinkpad p16 gen 2 laptop, comes with 2 thunderbolt ports and I use a different docking station on the 2nd thunderbolt port with 2 more monitors connected to it using HDMI cables as well and they both work fine.
I am sorry to hear that you are running into issues with your TBT4-UD5, but I would be happy to help try and identify the issues here.
First, can you confirm that you are trying to connect to your laptop using the included Thunderbolt 4 cable that came with your dock? We’ve seen issues arise when a third party cable is used.
Next, can you let me know the exact make and model of the laptop you are connecting to the dock? I just want to ensure that this is not a compatibility issue here.
It appears that you edited the original post and now mention that you have another dock connected to the other Thunderbolt 4 port on the host. Are you saying that this other dock is connected at the same time as the TBT4-UD5, or are you just pointing out that another dock can be connected to the host and support 2 displays.
If the former, can you confirm whether you are able to get 2 displays with only the TBT4-UD5 connected?
Evan,
I just wanted to give you a better idea of my current setup:
Thinkpad P16 Gen2 with 1 HDMI port and 3 thunderbolt ports
2 docking stations-
1 TBT4-UD5 with 2 monitors connected via HDMi cables( connected using the thunderbolt cable that came with the dock)
1 Wavlink docking station with 2 monitors connected via HDMi cables
Both the docks connect to the Thinkpad each using one of the thunderbolt usbc ports
Both Monitors on wavlink work fine but with the TBT4-UD5, only one monitor works at any given time
I have tried switches the dock connecting ports as well as trying all combinations of monitors between the two docks. End result is, I am only able to use 1 monitor display output from TBT4-UD5 and have the 4th monitor plugged directly to my Thinkpad
Thank you for the response and the details on your setup.
In my previous response, I had asked whether the TBT4-UD5 can support 2 displays when it is the only dock connected to the setup. Can you try disconnecting the Wavlink dock and letting me know if the TBT4-UD5 can support 2 displays?
