No Option to Select Monitor as an Audio Device

I am currently connecting a MacBook Air to a second monitor using the thunderbolt port and a third monitor using the DisplayLink Plugable. When going to system preferences, there is no option to select the monitor with built-in speakers (the monitor using the Plugable device). Is there a way to select the Plugable device for audio output

Hi Joe,

Thanks for posting. I’d be happy to help.

The first question I have is exactly which adapter are your using and what cables and adapters are you using to connect to the display?

For example, our USB3-HDMI adapter (http://plugable.com/products/usb3-hdm…) will pass audio over the HDMI cable. However, if you were to use the included HDMI-DVI adapter to connect to a display via a DVI cable, the DVI specification does not include passing audio.

When connected via an appropriate device, as you mentioned earlier you should be able to make the necessary changes via the Sound application within System Preferences (see below, there are two examples from my test system).

Let me know the additional information when you have a moment and we can go from there.

Thank you,

Bob
