I have some old VHS and Hi-8 tapes that I need to transfer to digital format. My plan is to input the signal to my AV-Receiver and use the HDMI output to go to my computer so I can record it. It is an older receiver, obviously, as it can accept the RCA inputs, but will upscale the output to 1080p.
Will the NIX capture card facilitate this process? I will probably be using OBS to capture the video.
Hi there,
Thank you for contacting Plugable. I would be happy to help.
From a technical perspective, the USBC-CAP60 capture card should be able to help digitize your VHS and Hi-8 tapes when connected through your AV receiver’s HDMI output, especially if you’ve successfully viewed your tapes via this HDMI connection to a display.
However, please be aware that analog-to-digital conversion can present challenges, such as signal inconsistencies and potential audio-video synchronization issues. These challenges often stem from the complexities inherent in converting analog signals to digital formats.
Additionally, because we haven’t specifically tested this exact setup, we cannot guarantee compatibility in this use case. I recommend trying out this configuration to see if it meets your needs. If you find that it’s ultimately not a fit or not compatible with the upscaled video from your AV receiver, you can always return it for a refund.
I hope this helps. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Adi
