New USB3.0 Dock does not recognize disks formatted with previous USB 3.0 Dock

I have two plugable USB 3.0 devices: USB3-SATA-UASP1 and USB3-SATA-U3. I just got the UASP1, but it does not recognize the drives that are working perfectly in the U3. Formatting a disk while using the UASP1 results in a disk that can’t be recognized by the U3 and vice versa. What can I do so that I can use the docks interchangeably?

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Plugable support! I’d be more than happy to assist you with this issue.

Most likely your U3 dock has an older firmware that has caused it to write to the drive in such a way it can only be read in that dock. This is why the UASP1 cannot read it.

The good news is we may be able to update the U3 dock should this be the case, however, the drive would no longer be readable by it. You would need to backup all the data (if any) first before the firmware update as the drive will need to be reformatted.

To know if we can update your U3 dock, please download and run this utility with your U3 dock attached, turned on, and with a drive inserted:

https://s3.amazonaws.com/plugable/bin…

It should show us what firmware is currently installed and I can then provide you with instructions on how to update the dock.

Please don’t hesitate to let us know of other questions.

Thanks again for contacting Plugable support and best wishes!

Hello Josh,

I’ve run the utility and it returns this as the firmware version:

12092681f601

Can my dock be updated?
