New laptop will not recognize HUB

I’m trying to get this hub to work with my laptop. I have 3 Vizio tv’s that I have been using for monitors with my desktop, but it will not work with my laptop. I can connect 1 tv via HDMI straight to the laptop and it will recognize it. The laptop recognizes(chimes) that the hub is connected, but it only displays it as a USB 2.0 BILLBOARD. I have checked for updated drivers, windows updates, etc. I also ran your debug tool, but I am unsure what to do with that output.

Device Info

Installed RAM 32.0 GB (27.7 GB usable)
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Pen and touch No pen or touch input is available for this display

Hello and thanks for posting and the description of what you are seeing! We’ll be happy to help.

Can you tell us the specific model of your laptop? The USBC-MSTH3 requires that the laptop supports video output from the USB-C port, also known as USB-C DisplayPort Alternate mode.

Hi there,

Welcome to the community!

My name is Michael S. and I would be happy to help assist with your issue.

Given your description of the issue, as Wash mentioned the USBC-MSTH3 is dependent on your host providing a USB-C port that is DP Alt Mode capable. I would be happy to take a closer look at your setup to see if we can determine if this is a compatibility issue, or something else.

When you have a moment, can you please email our direct support email address ( support@plugable.com) and include For ticket # 479721 in the subject line? In the email, please include the following information:

  • Please provide the Amazon Order ID number for your Plugable product purchase.
For your reference, an Amazon Order ID number has seventeen digits (separated by two dashes), and typically, that information can be found here → https://amazon.com/orders 1

  • Can you please keep the hub connected to your computer with your monitors connected to the hub (even if it is not working as expected) and send us the output of our diagnostic utility PlugDebug? → https://plugable.com/pages/plugdebug 1 3

This will allow us to examine log files from your computer and help determine the next steps.

Please do not post the above information here in our public forum (it contains personally identifiable information)

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to let us know.

Thanks!

Michael S.

Thank you for the responses. The laptop in question is a WVX off Amazon. I did end up solving this with a somewhat random solution I found online. I believe it was posted in a Lenovo group, but it worked for me.

Close all programs, unplug everything from the laptop and shut it down.

Press and hold power button for 40 seconds (computer should momentarily boot then shut back down but keep holding until 40 second mark).

Boot laptop up like normal and plug power and hub back in.

I’d say within 30 seconds or so of plugging everything back in, the screens were recognized. I’m now running my 3 screens with no problems.

That’s fantastic news, and thank you so much for sharing the solution you found.

That 40-second power-hold reset you mentioned is a great trick. It forces the laptop’s embedded controller and USB subsystem to reinitialize completely, which can often clear out any odd state or firmware hang-ups that prevent hubs or MST adapters from being recognized properly. We’ve seen this help with a few models, so your post will definitely be useful to others who might run into a similar issue.

We’re thrilled to hear that everything is now working and that you have all three screens up and running smoothly! Thanks again for taking the time to update the thread with your findings.

If you ever have questions about your setup or need tips on optimizing your workstation, please don’t hesitate to reach back out here or contact us directly at support@plugable.com.

All the best,

Michael S.
