Hello, thanks for posting and reaching out!

When you have an opportunity, please let us know the specific model of your Plugable device. There should be a model name printed on the bottom of the product, on the packaging and on the Quick Start Guide.

Thank you,
David

I have a UD-ULTCDL.

I got it to recognize my camera, monitor and 1 monitor but no luck with the 2nd monitor.

Bobby

Hi Wash,

Any ideas or suggestions?

Hi Bob, thank you for the information. I have forwarded this case to one of our product experts to assist further, but in the meantime can you tell us which port on the UD-ULTCDL dock that the non-working monitor is connected to? For example, is it HDMI port 1, 2 or 3?

Also, to ensure we understand what you have already tried, can you confirm the DisplayLink software was installed? These may be the instructions you referred to in your initial post, but I just want to make sure we know the steps already tried as you mention depending on the model and operating system your computer is using (like Windows or macOS).

For reference, we have Windows installation steps here: https://kb.plugable.com/questions/373346 and macOS installation steps here: https://kb.plugable.com/questions/1595423. In regards to macOS, it is particularly important to make sure that the DisplayLink Manager application has been granted the proper permissions as illustrated in steps 12-16.

Thank you,
David

I have tried connecting the 2nd monitor in HDMI 2 and 3 with no success. I was using a different model and did not have to install software and everything worked perfectly. I will try installing the software now.

Bobby

Both monitors are now working. Can you share what it means for the software to be recording my screen?

Bobby

Glad to hear that both monitors are now working.

MacOS requires these permissions to be set in order to allow the DisplayLink software to access the image on the screen and send it to the docking station over the USB-C connection in order for HDMI 2 and HDMI 3 ports on the UD-ULTCDL dock to work. DisplayLink is not actually recording the content on the screen.

Thank you. A suggestion would be to not call it permission to record with all the concerns on Cyber Security

Bobby

Hi Bobby,

My name is Sam and I’ll be jumping in for Wash to assist.

The name “Screen Recording” for the permissions needed for the DisplayLink Manager is definitely a bit unfortunate considering the application doesn’t do any actual recording of the content on screen.

This is an OS-level setting in macOS, and the name for it is set by Apple. As a result we don’t have control over what it’s called, or how the operating system decides which privacy setting the functionality of the DisplayLink Manager falls under.

Nevertheless we really do appreciate the feedback, even if it is something we are unable to change from our side. Please feel free to let us know if you have any additional questions or feedback and we’ll be happy to help.
