I have a LG 28MQ780-B 28 Inch SDQHD (2560 x 2880) that I am trying to run with my plugable device
I have the following:
Plugable 7-Port USB 3.0 Hub with 36W Power Adapter - Driverless - Effortlessly Connect Devices and Transfer Data at High Speeds
Plugable USB 3.0 to DisplayPort 4K DisplayLink Video Graphics Adapter for Multiple Monitors up to 3840x2160
When I try to run at 2560x2880, the monitor flashes green constantly anytime there is movement - Do I need a better hub to be able to make it work or is there something else I can do?
Welcome to the community. I am sorry to hear about the issues.
The UGA-4KDP has not been tested to support that resolution, nor do we list it as supported. I suspect that the DL-5500 chipset does not support 2560x2880, which is why you are running into this odd behaviour.
Do you have the same issue when you bypass the USB hub and plug the UGA-4KDP directly into the system?
Considering the age of the DL-5500 chipset and its behaviour when connected directly to the system, I don’t believe it will ever support your desired resolution. You might have better luck with a newer DisplayLink chipset, such as the DL-6950, which we use in our USBC-6950U model.
While we do not officially list your resolution as supported, technically, it should work. Unfortunately, I cannot guarantee compatibility since we have not tested our adapter with that specific resolution. However, this would be the best step to try if you’re looking to achieve this via USB.
I apologize for not having a more definitive answer, but I hope this information helps!
You don’t need to invest in a new USB hub; the one you have is perfectly capable of supporting that adapter. I wouldn’t recommend upgrading to a newer hub unless you plan to switch to a USB 3.2 Gen 2 with 10Gbps ports(assuming your host supports this) or if you wish to connect using USB-C.
