Mac Night-Shift Doesn't Work Monitor Attached to USB-C 4K Triple Display Dock

Setup:
MacBook Pro Touch Bar 2016
Plugable USB-C Triple Display Doc,
View Sonic VP-2760-4K Monitor
Attached to dock via display port to mini display port
4.1.11 DisplayLink drivers

Monitor and data connections otherwise working well. Cannot set up night shift for external ViesSonic monitor. Can control night shift on laptop display. Would like to be able to use night shift on each. Does anyone know whether there is a work-around or if a fix is in work?

Hi Tony,

Thanks for posting, and thank you for the great detail you provided about your setup!

The DisplayPort outputs of our UD-ULTC4K dock are driven internally by a DisplayLink chip (http://www.displaylink.com/). Unfortunately, Night Shift does not work with DisplayLink-powered displays so the behavior you describe is expected.

If you are only using the single display connected to the dock, a workaround would be to connect the display to the dock’s HDMI output using a HDMI to HDMI cable. The HDMI output is powered by the USB-C Alt Mode video output provided by your Mac’s Thunderbolt 3 port, and this will work with Night Shift. One important note, when connected to the HDMI output of the dock the maximum refresh rate of your 4K display will be 30Hz.

Thank you!
