Just background, no icons

This morning when I started up, there was a message about Windows configuring the desktop. Now the laptop is normal but the connection through the docking station shows only the background on the monitor and nothing else. I’ve tried restarting and unplugging the power to the docking station but neither worked.

Never mind. It was the computer software, not the docking station. The answer was to change the setting under “multiple displays” in Screen Resolution.
